After drilling the weldment, I removed the lower longeron to check the location of the holes on the weldment. With the pilot holes drilled, I clamped the lower longeron to the fuselage, checked the hole placement one more time, and then match-drilled the pilot holes through the firewall weldment. ![]() Then, I checked it one more time before drilling the pilot holes to #30. I marked the locations for my lower firewall weldment pilot holes, and then carefully checked that I had moved the holes the correct direction in order to not compromise edge distance. Since the new longeron fit well, it was time for the step where I screwed up the first part. ![]() When I did the initial fitting on the fuselage, I was surprised to find that the new part was the perfect length without any trimming. I used the bad part as a guide for making the new part, and after a lot of work cutting and filing, I finally had a replacement lower longeron. The clecoes were wrapped up in the other end of the angle.Īfter storing away the rivets and clecos, I went to work making a new left F-717 lower longeron. ![]()
